Emery slams Villa for losing consistency late on

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has criticised his side’s lack of consistency as they came from behind to lose 2-1 to Forest after conceding two late goals.

“We played to a plan and did a great job in the first 70 minutes and scored a goal. We tried to stop them from pressing high but they didn’t put us under pressure and we did that in the first half. ทางเข้า ufabet https://ufabet999.app When we scored, they went forward and made changes. We tried to be consistent but then we didn’t do that in the last 20 minutes and we conceded goals, one of them was offside. If we did that we wouldn’t be in the top eight.”

“We are in the process of building the team and we are trying to be competitive and consistent. Today was a big moment because we are fighting them for a chance to be in the top eight. Today they had the advantage and that is our challenge.”

On the battle for Ollie Watkins and Jon Duran’s place: “Yeah, it’s perfect.”

John Duran’s 11th goal of the season had put Villa on track for a fourth consecutive win, but despite praising the Colombian’s performance, Emery focused on his team’s collective disappointment.

“Individual skill and quality is very important, but today, most important is [the] collective, and we lost,” he added.

“Of course, it’s a good goal for him. Keep going, and try to be stronger defensively. We conceded a lot in 20 minutes, more than normal.

“The first objective we have, always, defensively, is to try to keep the ball possession longer, and better than we did the last 20 minutes,” concluded Emery.
